Senate rejects Health Ministry proposal to Borrow N82 Billion to purchase mosquito nets
The Nigerian Senate has denounced a proposition by the Government ministry of health to borrow $200 million (N82,070,388,916.76) under the malaria program to purchase mosquito nets in the 2022 financial budget.
A member from the Senate Board on health Gershom Bassey on Tuesday, October 26, opposed the move by the ministry during the 2022 financial budget defense of the Federal ministry of health.
Bassey told the Extremely durable Secretary, Mahmuda Mamman that the proposition regarding acquiring $200 million (about N82 billion at the authority conversion standard of N410 to a dollar) to buy mosquito nets was preposterous considering the sum in question.
The Board's judgment was in light of the Extremely durable Secretary's previous accommodation of the expectation to get the said sum for the acquisition of mosquito nets.
In the interim, the Leader Chief, Public Essential Medical services Advancement Organization, NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib had said the $200 million was for importation and nearby creation of mosquito nets
